Root

Many ways to relax

The importance of relaxation is now well recognized. It gives the body and
mind a chance to recover from the exhaustion. We should utilize our
mind and body, but at the same time should not exploit them.
Surprisingly, with increasing population in the world, one is doing
more work than before. I don"t understand the reason behind this, but I
suppose, it is the conflict of interests and ambitions (read as
greed) that are pushing us beyond limit.
Even machines cannot
work without rest. They fail after a certain limit. As we are reluctant
to take rest, we become the victim of hypertension, diabetes, faster
aging or burn out and may be even more critical diseases. The fact to
be kept in mind is that, if mind and body are weak they can be defeated
easily by minor ailments or small turmoils in mind. Meditation, yoga and
relaxation are proven to have power of bringing equilibrium in total
health.

There are many ways to relax. In this post I am going to share with you a relaxation
technique that has helped me and helps even today. I, kind of, stumbled
over it while trying to relax.

This
technique may cause some unusual feeling which you never have
experienced before and if you are not sure enough to cope with that,
please do not practice it.

The key requirements are-
1. You must not be fully exhausted physically or mentally. If you are, take a break of 20-30 minutes to calm down.
2.
It should not be done just after meal. Better, if you can do it about 1 hour
before taking food. If you are very hungry, take a small refreshment
and take a break of at least 10 minutes.
3. This requires a comfortable place without any noise or any disturbance. It should be suitable for meditation.

On
a comfortable floor lie down on your back, keep body straight and
flexible. Quickly try to feel the whole body and release tensions in
muscles if there is any. Loosen each and every part of body. If your
mind is not quiet, spend about 5 minutes in that position. Our minds
gets disturbed because something is not as we wanted it to be. To tackle this,
convince yourself, assure yourself. Say to yourself "I don"t need anything, I don"t want anything.
Everything is fine. Nothing is wrong and I accept happily everything
that is happening, nothing wrong, nothing right, everything is just fine". This will calm down your mind.

Now, follow any one of the methods described below-

METHOD
1. Close eyes. Try to feel the whole body. Try to feel if there is any
discomfort in the body. If so try to relax that area, make minor
adjustment in posture if necessary. Think of the toes and tell to
yourself that all toes are relaxed and try to feel that they are
relaxed and comfortable. Do same with ankle, leg, knee, thigh, waist,
fingers, hands and arms. At this point you may feel that your face
muscles are tight. Loosen them, this will open up your mouth slightly.
Concentrate on breathing. By this time breathing might be slower. Don"t
force yourself to slow down breathing, it will happen on its own. Feel
that the whole body is relaxed. Breathing may become still slower.
Don"t panic. If you are not comfortable, slowly
move toes and fingers, then move hands and legs slowly, turn your body
and you may get up. If you like, you can do the same later until you
get used to it. If you can continue, focus on the breath (which has
already become very slow) and stop thinking deliberately. You may feel
some unusual feeling in the body, almost like sleeping pill or
anesthesia dragging you into some unconsciousness. You may feel
floating like clouds or passing through endless tunnel. Be in that
state as long as you feel confident. You may notice that something like
a shadow is spreading through your head to the whole body. This time, you
won"t be able to feel your body. Only a faint breath and a thoughtless
mind can be felt. You may feel that your body is dead and has no
feeling in it. If you continue further, you will not know anything
until you get up from something like "yoganidra", a deep and
rejuvenating sleep. Never be in a hurry, do things very slowly. Get up
as mentioned earlier. Once you have a chance to feel this state of mind, you will like to do it everyday.

METHOD 2. In this method, you can focus on
your breath in stead of relaxing every part of the body mentioned earlier. This method is suggested by Deepak Chopra, the guru of quantum healing. The remaining
process is same as before.

METHOD 3. This is alternate of method 2. Just be thoughtless instead of focusing on breath and works same as method 1. This is easier for experienced people.

Well,
this is my personal experience and not tested medically. It may take
about a week or more to master this. Do it once or twice a day.
Initially it may take 40-60 minutes, but will be possible to finish in
30 minutes if you are experienced.

Most important : You should not be disturbed by sudden noise, body movement or wrong thoughts during this process. They are very harmful.

Comments and feedbacks are welcome for benefits of people.

Wish you a good health.

Power of People - 1

(Photo: Courtesy Vikesh Blog)

Governments,
political parties, rules and regulations, technologies, fads and fashions,
drought and flood will come and go, but the only thing that will remain here
forever is our people. People are the roots of this national tree and in their
power is the power of the country.

Of all resources we have, human resource is the most important to us
(though this assumption is biased and less sustainable).  Therefore, human resource management should
be of paramount importance to us. There are many around us who take a birth of
ignominy and hardly get access to the basic rights of food, shelter, education,
health and justice. This weakens our roots. Roots must be empowered to the
proportion of the plant’s growth and they must get their deserved nourishment
and support. Otherwise, we are likely to be a tree near the bank of a river whose
roots are washed by water and which succumbs to water faster due to lopsided
growth of heavy branches.

It is difficult to distinguish who is the root and who is the branch in
the same set population. But the fact remains that due to the natural tendency
of strong getting stronger and weak getting weaker, there is a portion of our
population which needs immediate attention. And if more of them belong to the
so called root of our society then the situation is alarming.

Negligence does pay for itself. If a portion of the population is
deprived of something, the other part is deprived of something else as well.
The neglected human resource does neglect the rest by not being able to
contribute to their fullest capacity and this is a loss and failure for any
society or country.

How can we ensure that every person born is given the same scope and
opportunity to serve the society? How can we stop the increasing economic
divide? If we cannot, it is of no good for any of us. In an integrated society,
the failure of one is the failure of others as well.  All people are interlinked in a cycle of
interest. A damaged ball bearing in this wheel makes others ineffective. And
this is a failure for all.  One cannot
win at the cost of other’s failure.

At this moment, when the well to do families are facing difficulty to
purchase their daily essentials like food, vegetables and petrol what is the
significance of poverty line? Estimates indicate that more than 25% of about
115 crore  people in India live below
poverty line. Without going into the details of how poverty line is defined, it
can well be said that more than one fourth of the country do not get the
required food, medicine and education or light of knowledge. This means about
30 crore people are not able to meet their basic needs though they work harder
than others. They fail to contribute their best as they just struggle to
survive. Unfortunately, these failed and hardworking people are falling apart
from the rest of the society breaking the social integrity and cohesion.

This huge power of people which otherwise could help building the nation
is getting weakened and it should be the goal of the country to reduce the
number of such people who cannot contribute to the growth of the country due to
poverty, illiteracy, heath or any other reason. Their power is our power and
their failure is ours.

WAKE UP INDIA !

What do we feel about ourselves? What do we think about our fellow citizens? And finally how much are we concerned about our country?

Though the geographical bounderies are limited to atlas, we need to think how we can improve at least this country, as no one else is supposed to mend my roof when it is leaking. India is a great country and a lovely mother. It has the greatness of tolerence, nonviolence and a strong unity. But what is India? Is it the mountains, valleys, rivers, people and other creatures on it? Is it the governments: state and central?

If we, as citizens of india, do not improve ourselves, our families, our locality, our state, can India improve? India is developing but I feel, as you may, that our development is biased. It looks that poor getting poorer and rich getting richer. This is going to create a social divide as opposed to our so called unity. What can we do to bridge this gap and what can lead India to the stairs of sustainable growth. This is a complex issue and our generation must do something to set the growth in right path.

Can India compete with global leaders? I believe, you all will agree that we do not want to be left behind. Then? Then we should lead. We should be the leader in the world. But how?

I would invite interested friends to share their views. This can be a long running discission. Still let people be aware. Start with your locality, the life standard, attitude, employment and economical status. Cultural changes that is taking place over the years and the direction in which we are heading.
